During the 8th grade students will study American history in the following units:
1 – Growth & Conflict
Students learn about the United States during the Civil War era exploring the causes, events, and consequences of the differences and eventual conflict between the northern and southern states.
2 – Rise of the Modern World
Students learn about the impact of the 2nd Industrial Revolution on the United States and how growing industrial might propelled the country to global power status by the early 1900s.
3 – The Inter-War Years
Students learn about the boom and bust of the Roaring 20s and the Great Depression and how both eras changed life in the United States and around the world.
4 – World War Two
Students learn about the rise of militarism and Fascism during the 1920s and 30s and how this led to the outbreak of the Second World War. Students then learn about the role of the United States during the conflict both as a neutral power and as a belligerent.
5 – The Cold War Era
Students learn about the conflict between the East and West and how life in the United States was impacted by the international struggle between freedom and totalitarianism from 1945 to 1990.
6 – The Modern World
Students learn about the United States during the 1990s and early years of the 21st Century looking at how international, technological, and social developments have shaped the world we live in today.
For each unit I have (or will) upload a complete slideshow as well as YouTube playlist so students can review lessons at home or catch up with any missing work.
