Children’s Books

Each book below is a classic of children’s literature, containing stories and characters that have become part of popular culture in the years since their creation. Reading as a child is one of the most important things you can do. Did you know that one in four Americans didn’t read a single book last year and that around 40% of people can only read and comprehend at the most basic of levels. The books below are some of the greatest ever written and have provided generations of children with pleasure while at the same time increasing their ability to read so in the future they can tackle more grown-up novels.

Previous Next

My personal favorites from this list are:

1 – Gulliver’s Travels – Jonathan Swift’s fantasy novel describing the strange adventures of Lemuel Gulliver.

2 – The Time Machine – H G Wells’ Time Traveler ventures far into the future where mankind has evolved into two different species – the childlike Eloi and the brutal Morlocks.

3 – Treasure Island – Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel about Jim Hawkins and his adventures against the pirate Long John Silver.

These Barnes and Noble editions are also available in e-book format (often for free) but I still prefer the feel of paper between my hands. You can’t really cozy up with a Nook or Kindle.
