Renaissance Literature

RafaelThe Renaissance saw an outpouring of new writing as the grip of the church lessened and the new technology of the printing press made books much cheaper than before.

Many of these new books criticized or lampooned religious or social views of the time.  Others gave advice to rulers about how to run their cities or nations.

The best book to start with, in my opinion, is Don Quixote, the story of a Spanish knight who decides to revive the Medieval ideals of chivalry but whose efforts to do so are comically inept.
