John Steinbeck

JohnSteinbeckJohn Steinbeck (1902 – 1968) was born in California into a well-off family that encouraged his writing as a young man.

During the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, Steinbeck’s writing¬† focused on the lives of poor migrants escaping hardship in the Midwest by moving to California where they believed they would be able to start again.¬† Steinbeck’s investigations revealed a quite different, harsher, reality for many of these people which he wrote about in three of his most famous books – Of Mice and Men, The Grapes of Wrath, and East of Eden.
